Recently  HTC sent a C&D (Cease and Desist) letter to a well known member of the mobile community, Conflipper. He operates a site called Shipped ROMS, that hosts ROMS from HTC.
Its one of the very few places that you can find shipped ROMs for older devices.
Windows sent a similar letter in mid 2009 to XDA and all ROMS were temporarily pulled.
There is some speculation regarding what is really behind this action;
One theory is that is was just a web crawler searching on keywords that send the letter automatically, and it is worded as such.
Another theory is that the lawsuit between Apple and HTC is motivating HTC to tighten up their copyrights.

A few memnbers from XDA have sent their grieivances to HTC and the responses were basically;
"While HTC tries to take a hands off [approach] about the modder / ROM chef community, this site's sole purpose [is] to make HTC's content available for download from a source other than HTC. That content is not just the open source parts and kernels of Android but all of the software that HTC itself has developed. This is a clear violation of our copyrights and HTC needs to defend itself in these cases."

IMO, HTC would be quite foolish to take an Applesque approach to their OS.
I only purchase WM devices because they CAN be modded. The ROM from HTC sucks!
...and we already know that M$ is heading down the Apple path when it comes to WinMo7....
It will be interesting to see how this all pans out.

Stay Tuned!  Wink

Peace!

Well... isn't that just special?!?

Bet ole Conflipper is having fits...

Ironic how they are suddenly complaining because people are improving their stuff.. when their PAID employees should have done it correctly from the get-go! Must be the removal of all that "paid for" Bloatware cutting into their profit margins! Why don't they simply come to an agreement with the Chefs' for shared rights for any "major" developments based on their copy righted crap??
  And if M$ hits that level of .. well.. if they hit WinMo7 the same way that ATT did their Android version, I will be swapping out phones to pure Android tech. Or just stay on 6.5.3 as long as I can.. I got 50 free gigs of hard-drive I can just start grabbing files on.. kinda like how I store ammo for when the zombies come!

Yes, Android is looking more and more appealing.
I won't touch WinMo7 unless it's jailbroke.....
Would also love to get a hold of an AR-15...... 'cause I think they're coming soon.

 My personal Android choice will be the Droid Eris by HTC.. ironic, yes? Another HTC device.. I'd have to unlock it and remap the ROM in order to use it on ATT since it's for Verizon right now, but think overall it's worth it.

AR15?!? ROFL.. you just asking for trouble there! Those lil' drama queens have a WHOLE lot of buggy issues. Go AK47- can work fresh outta a mud bog, ammo a whole lot cheaper, mags get the Bulgarian Poly's.. 30 rds. of 127gr. Zombie slaying goodness! Your leg holster should carry a Springfield XDM 9mm- with it's 19rd mags it would be great for popping Zombie skulls in close with low recoil.

LOL.. we're getting sooooo off topic..

Go check out my new sweety under "Off Topic".. email me for my list of "Why I hate AR's!" The M40A I was issued was TONS more dependable.. ARs are VERY dependent on cleanliness vs. AKs.

Besides that.. keep us updated on this HTC crying game!
