Does WiFi use more power than 3G?  I actually don't have a data plan, but my battery life seems to be considerably shorter when I use WiFi throughout the day.  I'm just wondering if I would get better life with a 3G data connection - never mind the busted budget.

Absolutely. WiFi and GPS are both battery eaters.
