Is this basically a retooled stock ROM that incorporates Sense 2.1/2.5??  Even though stock looking, it's pretty slick with the updated Sense...  Anyone have any experience with this one?

Yes, basically cooked ROM that is close to stock.
You would still have to HSPL first.

Of course.  And the RUU method is still the best and most fool-proof?

Absolutely.... My process is;
1. Hard Reset
2. Connect in Bootloader mode and run Task 29 with my Bootscreen nbh file.
3. Hard reset again
4. Connect in Bootloader mode and run the RUU.exe.
5. Hard reset again.
This ensures minimal effects from previous flashes.
Flashing to Stock ROM does the same thing as Task 29 but iit will replace your radio and bootscreen if you've flashed another one and takes longer than just running Task 29.
That's why I extracted the task 29.exe from the stock ROM.
This is also explained in my section under "Over-flashing"

The above is for when flashing a new ROM, correct?  And not for flashing HPSL?

Correct.
RUU doesn't seem to work for HSPL 1.83, just 2.51

Gotcha.  If I follow your tutorial, I should be fine though I'd imagine flashing HPSL and getting it to 2.51 OliNex.

Also I've read in a couple different threads on XDA, that the stock ROM that was up on HTC's site (for the TD2 anyways) incorporates Sense 2.5 whereas the ROM shipping on the phones had TF3D.  Do you know anything about this?

I believe that the shipped ROM is Sense 2.1 or 2.0 where as the upgrade from HTCs site is Sense 2.5.
Again,TF3D=>Manila=>Sense

Right, I'm not confused on the Manila/Sense thing now.  Wink

So then the "Stock" rom on HTC's site isn't actually stock that came on our devices that we are used to, but rather stock that's been updated by HTC...  I'm wondering if it's worth flashing to and trying out...  I'd hate for it to be updated not only in the Sense version on it, but possibly missing features or being more restrictive to tweak...

Good point, I didn't check actually...  Let me see and I can report back if it seems worthwhile or not.

EDIT: Alright, there's no release notes or any documentation of any kind for the ROM, just the installation instructions which isn't even in PDA printable form.  So I went ahead and emailed HTC about the differances.  Hopefully it'll be something insightful, we shall see...

Just to clarify, you used your S\N to find this ROM on HTC, correct?
You may also try to google the ROM version if it gives it, for example "WWE 2.53.405.5 specs"

Actually I didn't use my S/N.  I just got it from going to the product page for the Pure, and then when you click on "Specs" it'll make available a tab/link to "Downloads" where the hot-fixes and manuals are contained, the ROm is also there as well.  Looks like the ROm is exactly what comes on the device anyways.  I'm curious why the ROM is even on there though considering the reply I got back, talk about prompt!  This was the reply I got from an HTC service rep:

Quote
I will be more than happy to advise you about the ROM available on www.htc.com/us. This ROM is actually the exact same one that came on the phone; it is the original shipped ROM. Its presence on the site is what is a bit of an abnormality. Usually, the original, shipped ROM of a device is not available on the website. However, in the case of the Pure and the Tilt 2, we put that original ROM on the site in case it is needed. As indicated, it is really only there as a sort of safety net in case the device suffers from some sort of error which cannot be recovered by a soft reset or a hard reset. If the hard reset doesn't work, reinstallation of the ROM is the next step up; it serves as a sort of "super" hard reset. In any event, the ROM is the same ROM as the one the phone came with; it does not have Sense, nor is it different in any way. I certainly hope that you don't ever need to use that ROM file, but at least now you know that it is there in case you should ever need it.

So what I'm gathering maybe, is that the "update" or "backup" ROM for international users is what's updated with Sense 2.5, as I've read of people on XDA that flashed with the ROM posted on HTC's site, but it updated them to the newer Sense, rather than the Manila 2.1 (TF3D) that originally came on their device. I'm not sure if you've seen the couple of threads on there that discuss about that.

Yes, every carrier\region has a unique stock ROM, most received upgrades but it appears that the Pure was not one of them. That's why I asked about the S\N because most users have it to find their stock ROM but the Pure is unique to US AT&T.
I would suggest pulling the ROM for a backup and go for the HSPL.

I do have the ROM already, and plan to HSPL soon here.
