[Edit 30 October 2010] Removed on request of cmonex. She also said she'll get to the tickets, so hopefully everyone can get unlocked soon!

I've produced an "unlocked" HardSPL that doesn't require approval from OliNex/htc-unlocks.com to install.  It isn't completely cracked; it just uses my server in place of theirs.  This is a courtesy to OliNex, to prevent the "commercial usage" they seem overly concerned about.  My server will by default approve you, unless I notice that someone really is unlocking a lot of phones.  If you need a lot of unlocks, please go through OliNex.  [Let me know if you've got a valid reason to unlock more than 2 phones in a short period of time; I'm fine with a small company or large family that all have Topazes. Tongue But if you're directly profiting off OliNex's hard work by reselling unlocked phones, pay them what they deserve.] Even if you are an individual user, consider donating to them, as they do deserve some freewill donations for their excellent work.

It should work just like the original.  To install, grab Topaz-Unlocked_HardSPL_V5_00R5_183HSPL.zip [removed: see top] from this post.  (You may get a warning about a virus; you can ignore it as the original instructions say.)  Using that .zip file instead of the original "locked" Topaz-HardSPL_V5_00R5_183HSPL.zip, you'll basically follow the original instructions in the Topaz HardSPL thread on XDA Developers.  If you need the relocker, the manual SSPL file, or enablerapinew.cab, the normal ones from XDA or elsewhere should work.

Here's what the tri-color screen should look like before you can flash HardSPL:

After that, you should have HardSPL version 1.83 installed.  Verify by resetting your phone while holding the volume-down button.  You should see "1.83.OliNex" on the "tri-color" boot screen.  Once you're there, you can update to HardSPL 2.51 using the normal methods: Topaz_CustomRUU_v1.1.zip, Topaz_HSPL_251.zip, and the instructions in Bruce Inman's HSPL post.  (Basically, get CustomRUU.exe and RUU_signed.nbh from the HSPL 251.zip into the same directory on your computer, and double-click CustomRUU.exe to start it. You can also try flashing by SD card; see Bruce's post for information.)  Reboot again holding the volume-down button and verify you've got 2.51.OliNex, and you should be set to start flashing new ROMs!

Sources of help:

Alternative methods: [Edit 24 September 2010] I made a browser-based manual method, because a guy on XDA was having problems with the Windows-based automatic method.  He said after clicking the Automatic button it would show the "Attention - Preparing to flash, please press OK now and wait" message, and do nothing else.  He says this worked for him.  It should solve connection issues, like if you require a proxy to connect to the internet.  Go to http://bit.ly/cgkxxH and follow the instructions (fairly convenient and usable on the phone, since it gives you a cab file.)  Also, if you have Linux and you dare try HTCFlasher (Linux RUU by pof of XDA fame) to flash the HardSPL .nbh, this will bring the phone into a flashable state without Windows' assistance (I have no idea if HTCFlasher will work with the Pure or if it's safe for flashing an SPL, though!)  If anyone knows how to make a cab file run an .exe when it's done installing, that would make it able to enter the tri-colour screen automatically, instead of requiring the user to start up SSPL-Manual-TopazV5_01.exe.  I think I need a setup.dll but don't feel like downloading and installing the tools to make one right now.

AS one of the aforementioned "successes", I'll confirm that things are working well with this EXE.  Despite his gracious notice that you *might* get a virus warning, I am happy to report that I had no problems with this file!  It took quite a bit of fiddling to get around the corporate virus scanner on my box to run the original HSPL (on another phone), but this one just works.  Smiley  Also, as mentioned, this is the second phone that I've flashed from the same laptop PC, so that bodes well for the multi/corporate licensing issue.

Thanks for the testimonial. Wink  I had completely uninstalled my antivirus to try to get the original Hard SPL working, so I didn't know if my version is detected as a virus.  I wonder if my changes happen to be enough that it doesn't look like a virus anymore to the scanner.  Anyway, glad it worked for you!

Now Joey, does this require any interation from you, or is it completely stand-alone now?  Also how's this method vs. the RUU method described by Bruce in his How-To thread?  I'd love something fully automatic though like you have graciously created here for us.   Cool

I'm not requiring a submission of IMEI beforehand like I was doing before (I think the extra step kept anyone from trying it.)  It's not "stand-alone" per se since it still uses my server, but barring any connection problems (which the original is susceptible to), it should be fully automatic.  (I edited the first post to mention that if you do have any connection problems, I have a workaround.)

As far as I understand (and have seen on my phone), the RUU method or SD card won't work to flash a non-HTC-signed ROM (or an HTC ROM from another phone) of any kind (SPL bootloader, splash screen, Windows, radio, etc.) unless you've got HardSPL.  I think when your flashing progress bar hangs at 0% it's because the stock SPL detected that the ROM is not from HTC.  The HardSPL installer gets around this by temporarily loading a hacked SPL (called "SoftSPL") into the phone's RAM and running it from there.  It's been hacked to allow HardSPL to be flashed.  They probably use the normal RUU utility to flash HardSPL when SoftSPL is started.  Once that happens and you reboot, you can flash anything, using either RUU or SD card.

There have been more downloads of the installer than "licenses" that my server has granted.  It could just be people downloading and not needing right now, or re-downloading, etc., but I'm wondering if anyone is unable to connect to my server.  (Please do report if you have this problem.)  I've read of people having problems donating to Olinex based on their country (or maybe currency/banking system); does anyone know if people also have problems just connecting, like from behind a country-wide firewall/filter like in China or something?  If so, I'm not certain that anything can be done to help, but I'd hate for anyone to be stuck on stock just because they can't connect. Thank you so much!
I have been trying for hours to get around the multiple phone message when all I am trying to do is unlock my Fiancée's phone to install a decent ROM. I even tried different computers and used a VPN. Not sure what the method that is used in order to check for multiple unlocks but seems a little obsessive for those of us truly not using it for commercial purposes.
Thanks again

Hi Joey, just downloaded and installed your HSPL file and it worked perfectly!  I first attempted the RUU method in Bruce's original HSPL thread and the 2 times I tried it (first just like normal, and 2nd time with A/V and firewall turned off) and no luck.  Device sat at 0% for a few minutes before getting an Error 262 (the connection error).  So I downloaded your file, fired it up and BAM!  Worked on the first try and device rebooted itself with OliNex 1.83 within about 30 seconds of starting the flash.   Cool  Thanks again for doing this for us Joey!!

Ok, now off to flash to v2.51...
