HTC might have been better off lowering the megapixels and having better shutter speed. I would like to add that I realize it is a phone and not a camera but my philosophy is if you can't do it well don't do it at all! (as a side note, I have a GE camera that suffers from the same problem, so I'm actually content to use my phone for a camera in the mean time). It's just not meant to be a camera with a phone option. I use mine often, like just this morning with my new Beretta 92FS I got last night, and the REAL slow up will always be the auto focus. It's great for stills but action shots, not so much.  Does take fairly good pics, though!
