Hey all,
I've recently unlocked my AT&T Pure (through some eBay company/guy that gave me a code and ended up being a little cheaper than htc-unlocks) and switched to T-Mobile. I'm prepaying, and T-Mobile prepaid is quite a bit cheaper than AT&T's, for my low phone usage anyway.
By the way, after all the research I did, I was a little afraid of porting my number, but I spent very little time/effort with both support lines, and received a call through T-Mobile only about 5 hours after initiating the port. Possibly it was working before that, too, I didn't bother to try.
I was wondering if anyone else is using T-Mobile and could share some tricks, etc.
When I switched to Dutty's creme de la creme ROM it asks you about your provider, and it looks like it was able to automatically set up WAP/APN settings so that I can get free "T-zones" web connection (at EDGE speeds of course, and seemingly very crippled compared to what I hoped for - still looking into how to get more content.) I didn't get this working on the stock ROM, but I imagine it's only a matter of the right network settings, which I can try to find and post if anyone's interested.
For fun I'm looking into getting 3G working, even if I won't be able to do much with it as a prepaid customer. But from what I understand, the frequency difference is a hardware issue that can't be fixed with software. I updated to the latest radio ROM that XDA had, and still don't get 3G. Anyone know differently?
I've kind of looked at the T-Mobile MDA Compact V, which seems to be exactly like the Pure only tuned to T-Mobile's network and branded by them. It would be more tempting if I could find one as cheaply as Pures seem to be going these days (almost $150 on eBay!, although possibly they're well-used, broken, or scams; I didn't look very closely.) But with exchange rates, international shipping, and probably a scarcer supply of MDA Compact V's than of Pures, they're too expensive to buy just to get 3G I won't even use much, even if it would also set me up with a backup phone to experiment with ROMs, etc., on.
Thanks for reading and good luck, Joey
