SO, this is a 2 part question.

First, does everybody else have a data plan on their phone?  If so, how much are you paying for it?  On the Incite forum, there were many people getting unlimited data for far less than the $30 "smart phone" package AT&T pushes.  I haven't paid for a data package because I have wifi in most places I use my phone.

One reason I ask is because whenever I turn my phone on, I get the following message on the home screen.  "There is a problem connecting to the GPRS service in your registered home network."  It usually goes away shortly and I don't worry about it, but I have seen it pop back up a couple times.  Does anybody know what it's doing that causes this warning?

i got a text from at&t saying that if i did not have the 30 dollar data plan they were gonna automatically upgrade my plan. i already had the data plan so it doesnt bother me, but they say u have to have the data plan now to have a smartphone. i think all carriers are doing this now a days.

That would NOT be cool.  I don't think they could do that with my "contract", but I'd hate to have to fight it.  I looked around for a while before I found a way to buy my Inicte without a data plan.

u might be able to get away with it 4 a lil while but eventually ur gonna have to get the data plan or a diff phone. but they have to let u out of ur contract for free if they make u change it. but like i said earlier, every carrier is doing this now.

I got my pure via an upgrade direct from att and was not required to have the data plan because I was "grandfathered in" having been a customer since the mid 90's. Though without the dataplan I was unable to get the $50 rebate.
